Project Type: Elementary School Construction
Date Begun: March 1, 2008
Date Completed: August 8, 2008
Community Name: El Aulo, Nicaragua
School Name: Escuela Cheryl Elliott Barker
In 2008, the community of El Aulo, Nicaragua and Project Schoolhouse collaborated to construct a new three-room school. Their previous school was a bamboo construction that had dramatic structural problems, leaked profusely, and was infested with termites and insects.
This project was adjacent to a road traversable year round, so the transportation was much more convenient than our typical project.
This community still does not have a source of clean water and we are working to find funding to build a new community-wide water system.
