In 2012, the community of Jardin del Eden, Nicaragua and Project Schoolhouse collaborated to construct a new two-room school. The previous school was built from wooden boards and had a palm frond roof that leaked considerably. The students were crammed into the small space and had to climb over each others’ desk to reach their own.
The community built an access road by hand using picks and shovels so that the trucks carrying materials could arrive to the construction site.
This community is unusual in that they have electricity from the hydroelectric plant in the region and a water system built previously be Agua Para la Vida.
