Project Schoolhouse

Project Schoolhouse

We partner with communities in rural Nicaragua to build new schools, create community water systems, and improve sanitation.

In rural Nicaragua, 1.8 million people live without access to safe water and 1.6 million do not have access to even basic sanitation facilities. (1), (2)

Water-related diseases remain among the main causes of death in children under 5. (3)

Lack of adequate classroom environments hinder children’s ability to learn.

Poor sanitation is linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.

WE DO THREE THINGS

We work with communities that have identified both the problems they want to solve and the solutions to fix them. Our purpose is to facilitate projects that have real grassroots support and local buy-in that result in sustainable progress. By tackling education, water, and sanitation issues simultaneously we help communities achieve more complete solutions to complex problems.

CLEAN WATER

Every person has the right to clean, safe water IN THEIR HOMES.

MORE

SCHOOLS

Schools are the foundation for a stronger, more vital future for a community.

MORE

SANITATION

Proper sanitation is necessary for a dignified and healthy life.

MORE

WE DO THEM WELL

People are at the heart of what we do. We only work where we've been invited, and only on projects the communities have prioritized.

Community volunteers learn key building skills and are supported in setting up maintenance funds to ensure projects are maintained for the long-run.

Our in-country team guides the design and are experts at overcoming the immense logistical challenges inherent in working in remote regions.

Community members donate all of the labor to make the projects a reality.
